Dear Parents,
Our annual theme as a school community is to “be curious.” Whether it is encouraging students to add to the wonder wall or intentionally planning activities that foster curiosity, teachers are hard at work developing this unique skill inside and outside of the classroom. Here are just a few examples from this week:
- Walking between the 100 wing and the 200 wing sparks curiosity and wonder as our 4s students and teachers work to create Antarctica. After researching various animal adaptations and habitats, the 4s also celebrated “Nocturnal Day”.
- Kindergarten students have explored how various items have changed over time and the reason for those changes.
- 1st and 4th grade visited the Starlab, an inflatable planetarium, to learn more about natural patterns in our world (1st) and the solar system (4th).
- 3rd grade has been exploring the world around them and researching various forms of poetry to write their own poems.
- 4th grade is in the research phase of the Exhibition process finding facts about their topics and planning interviews and field trips around our community.
Next week, we will host a variety of events including Valentine’s Day class parties, 3rd grade “Poetry Café”, and the 4th grade TED Talks. We have the unique ability at Spartanburg Day School to offer the most engaging learning experiences to our students and give them the individualized attention to explore their unique curiosities and passions.
Our curiosity does not stop with our students and teachers. We invite grandparents to join us on March 1st to “be curious” and learn all about a day in the life of our youngest griffins. Please let your child’s teacher know how many grandparents plan to be in attendance on that day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Clayton
