News from the Middle School

Week of Aug. 28

Dear All,

It's been a good, full week. Binders and planners are starting to take shape and look like tools for learning, bookbags are getting worn in, fobs have been lost and found, reading logs are filling up, a few recess balls are on the roof, and we are all finding our way. It feels just right on our end, and I hope some familiar routines are starting to emerge in your households as well.

The first of many Friday afternoon games between the youngest and the oldest...

Faculty are looking forward to seeing you at our Middle School Parents' Night which is Tuesday, September 5th from 6-8 p.m. I will send a bit more information about that in next week's letter but put that evening on your calendars as a time to hear from your children's advisors and subject area teachers. Speaking of advisors, you should have received an email from your child's advisor welcoming you to the school year and introducing him or herself. If you did not receive that, will you let me know so that I can double-check your email address on our end?

The week ahead begins with an E day on Monday and ends with an early dismissal on Friday. We dismiss at 12:05 on Friday. At that time, faculty will engage in a bit of professional development and then join in the fun for a long, holiday weekend. SDS will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 4th.

Wednesday is an SDS t-shirt day as always.

Friday is our first Friday Dress Down Day. The theme is College or NFL football day so wear your colors or jerseys or hats and dress as you wish to kick off the season. Dress as you wish basically means that if you join in on the theme, you do not need to follow our daily dress code.

The Middle School always enjoys participating in school-wide efforts such as the Interact Food Pantry Drive. Please see the flyer in Griffin News for all the details.

Last, today we began what we hope will be a new Friday lunch routine. Ask your children to explain Spartanburg~Day~School and how that has anything to do with lunch today.

Thank you again for choosing SDS. We are loving all of your people so much.

Take good care, get some rest, stay out of the heat if you can, and we'll see you Monday.
