News from the Middle School

Week of Aug. 21

Dear All,
It has been a terrific first few days back. I am a big fan of the half-week start and I know your children are as well. If I were you, I'd expect very little of them this weekend and likely next weekend as well. They'll get into the groove soon, but experience tells me they will be toast tonight and after a full week next week.

I cannot say enough positive things about our students right now. Our 8th-graders are leading the way with kindness and class, our 5th-grade students have jumped right in without missing a step, our new SDS students don't seem new at all, to be honest, and everyone in between is filling the halls with goodness and laughter. Things feel extra good in other words.

Happy to be back!

Dressed in blue...

How many can we fit on this bench?

We missed you, 9 square...

We need lines, Mrs. R...

Just running and swinging...

Fruit basket!

Figuring it all out...

How long will it take for this year's tether ball to break?

Kitchen?

Okay, as promised, brief and to the point:

  • I had a really nice conversation this morning with 5th-grade parents and one thing that came up was wishing to add Mary Hutchins' phone number and extension to their favorites...so, here it is...mary.hutchins@sdsgriffin.org /phone: 864-582-7539 ext. 2011.
  • Next week begins with an A day(this means M-W-F are A days and T-Th are E days).
  • Wednesday is an SDS t-shirt day.
  • 5th and 6th grade P.E. shirts have been ordered and should be in next week. Each student will receive one from the school and students may purchase additional t-shirts for $8.00. Until then, students may wear any shirt of their choosing for P.E. Students will begin dressing out this week.
  • Athletics are in full swing. Join us for games anytime. Please reference emails from your child's coach and our website athletics calendar for the most up-to-date information.
  • 7th and 8th-grade students should have ordered textbooks by now. If you need that list again, just email Farrar.
  • Middle school band students(6th-8th grades) will have a Band Parent information meeting on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the band room in the Dent building.
  • Thank you for your support regarding the dress code. Everyone looks terrific.

Take good care and get some rest yourselves...it's probably been a long week for you, too.

~Farrar
