Dear SDS Learning Community,
Today we all gathered on the front lawn for the annual “I’m a Griffin” picture. The unifying component for all students and faculty were t-shirts, but even more than that, the annual theme which is prominently displayed on those t-shirts: curiosity. At the beginning of this school year I asked all of community members to consider the following question:
“How might you uncover a new insight into something ordinary?”
Put another way, take the time to focus on what makes you wonder, let that drive your curiosity, which is honed through inquiry and leads to discovery. Coming together as a whole school with this charge on our new shirts was more than a photo op. It was an affirmation of what I suspect were the reasons you chose SDS for your children in the first place: there is something special about a faculty who stands alongside each and every child, providing opportunities for wonder, developing skills in being curious, and nurtures learners to new and previously unconsidered discoveries about themselves and the world around them.
And so this afternoon, as we come together again as families to celebrate another school year together, I hope you will continue to be open to all the Day School has to offer you and your family in our learning community and the special people - students, parents, siblings, faculty and staff that make it up.
I’ll see you all tonight!
Sincerely,
Dave
