Join our Preschool
Twos, Threes and Fours classrooms at Spartanburg Day School are filled with joy and curiosity. Teachers nurture students, encouraging them to ask questions and discover the world around them. Our littlest Griffins love to learn.
How we teach
The curriculum in preschool is centered around purposeful play. Lessons are designed for students to make discoveries and introduce early learning skills. Every element of the classroom – down to the seating – is strategic.
Students have fun beading a bracelet and don’t realize they are honing fine motor skills or creating a pattern; they role play in the housekeeping center, unknowingly developing life skills such as collaboration and problem solving; and they are free to be curious, using big imaginations to turn a kitchen table and chairs into a spaceship to the moon.
A morning in the threes
At Spartanburg Day School, teachers recognize the individual. Despite the range of interests and abilities in my son’s 4K class, the teachers seamlessly integrated his interests (everything from the weather to cactuses to dinosaurs) with the interests of all of the other students. They grew a cactus leaf my son brought from home, fit dinosaurs into the lifecycle lesson plan and added several hours of discussion and video when a volcano erupted in Hawaii. It’s not a simple thing to recognize and encourage people’s differences effectively, and at SDS, they do this very well.
