College Basketball Players from the Upstate to Watch

The College Hoops season is back and ready to tip off. This year, there are a lot of talented players taking action from the upstate of South Carolina. Here are six players from the Upstate that you should be on the lookout for as we continue the College Basketball season.  

 

  • PJ Hall— Clemson

PJ Hall is from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Hall played his high school career at Dorman, and later established himself as a top player on the Clemson Tigers basketball roster. Last season as a sophomore, playing 30 games, he averaged 15.5 points per game and averaged 5.8 rebounds— big improvements from his Freshman season where he averaged just 3.5 points per game and just 2 rebounds.

 

  • GG Jackson— South Carolina

GG Jackson was a 5-star recruit coming out of Ridge View High School where he won his first state championship last season as a junior. Jackson decided to reclass and play college a season early at the University of South Carolina. So far this season, as a Freshman, he has a big impact as he leads the Gamecocks in scoring with 16.3 points per game, and leads the team in rebounds with 7.4 per game. Big things to come from him the rest of his Freshman season.

 

  • Noah Clowney— Alabama

Noah Clowney is also from Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated last year from Dorman High School. So far in his Freshman season at Alabama he has had a pretty good impact for his team. He is averaging 6.7 points per game and 7.9 rebounds for game (second for the team) and helped contribute to Alabama’s win over the Tar Heels of North Carolina.

 

  • Jordyn Surratt— USC Upstate

Surratt was a teammate of both Clowney and Hall at Dorman High School. Surratt was a senior last season alongside Noah Clowney. Surratt is now playing at USC Upstate where he averages 2.2 points per game and 2.2 rebounds. His highest scoring game is just 4 against Brevard College and Coastal Carolina.

 

  • Miles Tate— Butler

Miles Tate is from Spartanburg. He graduated with his former teammate, PJ Hall, from Dorman. Since he has had a solid career at Butler. His freshman season he performed really well averaging 6.7 points per game and 2.3 assists. He has been injured since. So far this season he is averaging 2.3 points, 1 assist, and 0.9 rebounds per game.

 

  • Darius Bowser— Houston

Darius Bowser is from Gaffney, South Carolina. Bowser spent his first 4 seasons of his college career at Charleston Southern University where he averaged 3.5 points per game at CSU and 2.7 rebounds to complement. This year at Houston he has played in just one game. The Houston Cougars are ranked 1st in college basketball as of now (December 2nd, 2022).
