Spartanburg Day School is currently seeking an Athletic Trainer for the 2024 - 2025 school year. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for the health and well-being of student-athletes through the care and prevention of athletic injuries. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding people skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize, and complete work independently and with School medical personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide preventative care to student-athletes and support coaches by caring for players’ sports-related injuries.

Provide event coverage for all levels of SDS athletics (practices and games).

Provide first aid care to spectators, coaches, and officials.

Administer primary clinical evaluations and subsequent treatment and rehabilitation programs.

Assess, treat, and manage concussions, including oversight of the return-to-play protocol.

Maintain thorough and timely records of injuries and rehabilitation and ensure compliance with required SCISA forms.

Work directly with coaches and parents to discuss an athlete’s injuries to ensure all parties are aligned on treatment, recovery, and return-to-play timelines while ensuring privacy.

Collaborating with Griffin’s Clinic and the Athletic Director to clear and restrict students for athletic competitions (SCISA).

Refer injured athletes to a higher level of care as appropriate.

Wellness and Education promotion of proper nutrition, hydration, and overall wellness.

Coordinate with Griffin's Clinic and/or instruct CPR, First Aid, and AED certification classes.

Coordinate with Griffin’s Clinic sports physicals

Support summer training programs

Assist Griffin Clinic as needed and provide first aid to Extended Day participants.

Manage athletic training room, equipment, protective equipment, and supplies.

Other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required, Masters Degree preferred.

Prior Athletic Training experience.

NATA and BOC certification
-
First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.

Outstanding judgment and professionalism.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Positive student and faculty engagement.

Experience or certification in strength and conditioning or nutrition is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the faculty member is regularly required to speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear (corrected or uncorrected), and, sometimes, sit. The faculty is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The faculty must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print. The faculty must frequently bend, reach above the head, forward, and use fine motor skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are normally performed in a school environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
All SDS faculty must successfully pass a background check upon hire and periodically during employment. SDS participates in the E-Verify program.
