Dear SDS Learning Community,
We are certainly rolling into the school year with great momentum. As you can see from the picture above, even our 4s students are rolling around campus with excitement and cheer – and wheels!
While the picture above is cute, it’s what is underneath it that strikes me. On the surface, it is fun to ride bikes on campus. But Ms. Birney and Mr. Simpson designed the ride with some clear goals in mind. Developmentally, four and five year olds need practice in controlling their bodies, in hand-eye coordination, in spatial awareness. In a seemingly simple ride to Dent, they get all of that. They not only have to power the bike, they will need to speed up and slow down, turn left and turn right, and be aware of where they are amongst their friends so they don’t run into each other, an Upper School student, or a teacher.
This is what we talk about when we think of a superior educational experience and one you aren’t likely to find anywhere else. Our teachers design learning experiences with intention.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week.
Sincerely,
Dave |
