Plastic Pollution and Sea Turtles

Speaker: Kelly Thorvalson

Kelly Thorvalson is Conservation Programs Manager at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston where she has worked since 1999. Plastic Pollution is one of the most pressing environmental crises of our time and a growing threat to water, wildlife and wild places. Join us to learn how sea turtles and other marine life are increasingly at risk from plastic pollution and how citizen science is successful in mitigating plastic pollution in communities. Attendees will go home with new information as well as reusable bags and straws to kick the plastic habit!

Our Vital Watershed

Speaker: Professor Jack Turner

Dr. Jack Turner taught microbiology and ecology at USC Upstate for 40 years. He is the founder and director of the Watershed Ecology Center at USC Upstate.

A watershed encompasses everything in that defined area, not just the water itself, but the trees, plants, animals, air, people, roads, houses, soil and even the weather. Join Dr. Turner as we explore the Broad River watershed and uncover opportunities to protect and preserve this valuable resource.
